At Blue Collar People we see a lot of new workers looking at breaking into the construction industry, and we love to see it! We’ve outlined a few things that stand out to us and will help us get a good impression of you.
- Remove fluff from your resume. Don’t worry about adding unnecessary jargon to get through automatic filters — we manually review every application we get. Just tell us clearly what you’ve done so we can get around to calling you faster.
- Be aware of your skills, and honest about your limitations or inexperience. It’s OK not to have experience; we understand! We just don’t want put you on a job you’re not ready for, get bad feedback and have to stop finding work for you. Additionally, it could be dangerous and we take our workers’ health and safety very seriously.
- Interview and work well — bring a good and attentive attitude. If you don’t have experience, your attitude and work ethic will have to make up the difference and we’ll get a good feel for that when we interview you! It’s the same when you’re on-site: we collect feedback for all our workers and will quickly build a profile on you, and if you perform well we’ll quickly start trying to keep you busy.
- Be on time, reliable, and stay active at work. Being on time sounds obvious, but it’s an important checkbox you need to tick off. And if throughout the day you find you’ve done what the supervisor has asked you to do, check in with them and see what else they need! It makes a big difference, and supervisors appreciate the proactive approach
If you interview well, we’ll give you a shot, and if you’re a great help on-site we’ll get you more work as soon as we can!
